Stop Spain from protecting bullfighting [ Living without cruelty ]

The Spanish government is currently considering passing a new law to both protect and promote bullfighting. Most Spanish citizens do not support this cruel and outdated 'sport' that leads to the violent and painful death of the bulls involved, and do not want their tax money being used to promote it.

Please add your voice to those opposing this proposed new law by contacting the Spanish ambassador to the UK.

Tesco supporting animal research [ Animal experiments ]

Following on from its partnership with Cancer Research UK in 2012, Tesco has announced that its 2013 National Charity Partner is Diabetes UK, another charity that is known to fund animal research.

Tesco Bank will be donating money to Diabetes UK every time someone uses one of its cash machines, despite the fact that many people who use Tesco’s cash machines will not want their transaction to benefit a charity involved with vivisection.

Please contact Tesco, and urge them not to support charities that fund animal research, and to give its customers a choice as to whether or not they want to support Diabetes UK:

Stop Lanarkshire Zoo [ Wildlife ]

An application to build a new zoo complex at Cuningar Loop on Glasgow’s Clyde river is likely to be submitted soon. The zoo will imprison lions, gorillas and hyenas, along with many other species. Put an end to the 'Living Eggs Project' [ Factory farming ]

The Living Eggs Project is a for-profit private enterprise that sells ‘incubation kits’ (with fertilised eggs) to schools, for chicks to be born in the classroom. It claims to offer children the chance to experience the ‘miracle of life’, but results in immense suffering for the chicks, the majority of whom live for only a very short time before being sent for slaughter.

Kose: Stop testing on animals! [ Animal experiments ]

This year, Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido announced that it will no longer sell cosmetics which have been tested on animals. However, there are still many other cosmetics companies in Japan that continue to do so. The third biggest cosmetics manufacturer in Japan, Kose, states that it ‘looks forward to the day when all animal testing can be discontinued’, but has not set a specific deadline for achieving this.

Stop Mazor Farm breeding monkeys for experiments [ Animal experiments ]

The Israeli group ‘Monkey Struggle’ are currently trying to shut down Mazor Farm, a business that breeds long-tailed macaques for primate experiments. Mazor Farm imports wild-caught monkeys, forces them to breed and then exports their offspring to animal testing laboratories around the world with the assistance of the Israeli airline El-Al.

Please write to the new Minister of the Environment for Israel, Mr Amir Peretz, urging him to stop the cruel trade in monkeys at Mazor Farm and to find a humane solution to the rehabilitation of the monkeys there.

Stop Amores restaurant from selling veal [ Animal experiments ]

The Amores restaurant in Beeston has an extensive veal menu, despite the cruelty involved in its production. Veal calves are fed largely on a liquid diet, which predisposes them to anaemia. They are slaughtered before they reach six months of age.
