ESSEX ANIMAL PRIDE AWARD FOR COMPASSION TO ANIMALS '99

Posted 25 March 1999

Animal Aid are now seeking nominations for the Essex Animal Pride Award for Compassion to Animals '99 which will be presented at The Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock on Saturday 7 August.

The purpose of this award is to give recognition to a local person who has made a special sacrifice, or committed a particularly brave act to help one or more animals in need. The award could also go to an animal who has met the heroism test. In particular Animal Aid are keen to seek nominations for young people who have performed compassionate actions towards animals.

Last year the Essex award was won by a 10 month old tortoiseshell tabby called Tic Tac, for alerting his owners Mark Sawyer and Wendy Jenkins to a fire in their flat. The award was presented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Thurrock.

The Essex award will be one of a series to be presented throughout the country during the summer, as part of the Animal Pride promotion. In each case the award presentation will coincide with the visit of the Animal Pride Educational Roadshow. The winner at each venue will receive a framed certificate which will be presented by a well known local celebrity.

Any help that you can give, for example notifying us of any potential nominees or publicising the awards, will be much appreciated.

We anticipate that the award will generate a lot of interest amongst the general public, given that people like human/animal interest stories and a good local hero always goes down well.

People wishing to nominate either a person or an animal for the award should write or phone for a nomination form from: Animal Aid, The Old Chapel, Bradford Street, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1AW, Tel: 01732 364546.

Closing date for nominations is 10 July.
